Agency: Just Food

Contact: 856-7030

Just Food needs summer volunteers to help sort and package food, assist clients and perform various other warehouse duties. Please note that closed-toe shoes are required and that the warehouse is not air-conditioned, so volunteers must be OK with working in the heat. There are a few upcoming volunteer trainings at the warehouse, 1200 E. 11th St.: from 10-11 a.m. today, 2-3 p.m. Wednesday and 2-3 p.m. July 13. Call 785-856-7030 for additional information if needed.

Immediate needs

• Plymouth’s Language Program is seeking volunteers to fulfill various roles at its ESL classes every week. The program is in need of friendly greeters, conversation partners for English and Spanish classes, outreach, transportation and substitute child care volunteers who can be on call. Classes are from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt., through July 28. ESL conversation volunteers need to attend a brief orientation session at 6 p.m. Thursday. If interested, contact Laura Canelos at plymouthesl@gmail.com.

• Lawrence Public Library is seeking two to three volunteers to assist with special events throughout the year. These events are oriented toward adults and include author visits, lectures, book clubs, film series, art exhibits and more. Tasks will involve greeting patrons, setting up chairs and special equipment, and assisting with AV equipment. Volunteers can help with two to three evening and/or weekend events per month, depending on availability, and must be at least 18 years old and out of high school with experience working with the public. To sign up, contact Sherri Turner at 843-3833.

• The Kansas Trails Council needs volunteers to participate in an upcoming trail workday. Volunteers will help with lopping, brush clearing, trash pickup and general trail maintenance in MacLennan Park at Cedar Crest in Topeka on Saturday. Kansas Trails Council hosts trail workdays throughout the state during the summer. Contact Mike Goodwin at 785-221-1794 or goodwinmw@cox.net for more details about the exact times and location of Saturday’s event, or if you would like to be put on his contact list so that you may receive notice about all future trail workdays in the Lawrence-Topeka area.
