• Kief’s Audio/Video hosted its annual Tour de France watch party July 22. This year Kief’s incorporated a fundraising effort for the Mikal Bond family. Mikal, 13, was critically injured in a recent biking accident in Douglas County. Co-sponsors included Sunflower Bike Shop, Free State Brewery and Garmin International. Their contributions helped Kief’s raise more than $1,000 through silent auctions, raffles and general donations from guests.

• Black Hills Energy-Kansas Natural Gas announces the promotion of Carmen Shultz to construction coordinator for Lawrence operations. Shultz previously was a drafting and mapping specialist and has been a draftsperson with Black Hills Energy and its predecessor companies since 1990. In her new role, she will continue to be responsible for mapping the Lawrence gas distribution system and will assume additional responsibilities, including system design, construction scheduling, field safety audits, and coordinating projects with the city of Lawrence, local developers and contractors.

• Peggy Johnson, a financial adviser with Ameriprise Financial in Lawrence, qualified for and attended the 2011 Circle of Success conference in Montreal. Johnson was one of the company’s top producers and achieved high levels in production and other measures of success.

• The dental office of Wilkerson, Saunders and Anderson, DDS, welcomes a new associate, Dr. Monte Clumsky. Clumsky brings more than 30 years of experience. He began his career in Coffeyville and opened his Lawrence practice in 1992 in the First Bank Plaza on Iowa Street.

• “5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace: Empowering Organizations by Encouraging People” is being released Monday by Northfield Publishers (Chicago). Authors are Gary Chapman, author of The New York Times No. 1 bestseller “5 Love Languages,” and Paul White, a business psychologist who grew up in Lawrence.

• Applications are being accepted for the Leadership Lawrence Class of 2012. The program includes an opening and closing retreat and seven “themed” days covering subjects including education, economic development, social services and government. • Neil Gaskin was recently named one of the “Top 40 under 40” remodelers in the country by Professional Remodeler magazine, a leading magazine for the remodeling industry. Gaskin is co-owner of Natural Breeze Remodeling, a locally owned commercial and residential construction firm that has been serving the Lawrence market for 30 years
