Lawrence police looking for suspect accused of injuring KU student

Lawrence police are searching for a suspect accused of injuring a Kansas University student late Wednesday outside his west Lawrence apartment.

Kim Murphree, a police spokeswoman, said the 22-year-old male student was treated and released at Lawrence Memorial Hospital for a head injury. The student alleged an unknown man seemed to be waiting for him as he returned home around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday to his apartment at The Grove, 4301 W. 24th Place.

Police were called at 11:30 p.m. upon report of a fight, Murphree said, and witnesses said they saw two men fighting in an entryway while one was using a bat. The suspect was last seen running southeast from the apartment building.

Murphree said police were looking for a black male who was dressed in all black and wearing a bandana or mask across his face. Nothing was taken from the victim, she said.
