The grants pay for storm windows, attic insulation and door weather strips. City workers visit homes to determine what type of weatherization needs to be done. Jessica Roberts, project specialist, said the average cost of needed work is $1,500 a home.
Lawrence began the weatherization program in 1976.
The city is accepting applications through August. Money is awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. The program accommodated all 83 applicants last year, Roberts said. For eligibility requirements and more information, visit http://web.ci.lawrence.ks.us/lists/archive.php?x=2990.
