McLouth man injured when vehicle rolls on 24-40 highway near Lawrence airport

A 44-year-old McLouth man was injured Monday night in an accident on U.S. Highway 24-40 near the entrance to Lawrence Municipal Airport, a Douglas County Sheriff’s spokesman said.

Sgt. Steve Lewis said Delbert Terry was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital after he lost control of his 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck about 10:15 p.m. while headed west.

Lewis said the truck went into the north ditch and eventually over a field drive before crossing both lanes of traffic and into the south ditch, which caused the vehicle to roll. The truck landed on its side, and Lawrence Douglas County Fire Medical workers extricated Terry before taking him to the hospital.

Lewis said officers suspect alcohol was a contributing factor but that was still under investigation as Terry agreed to submit a blood sample at the hospital. Lewis said officers also believe Terry’s license was revoked and that he was not complying with restrictions.

Terry was listed in fair condition Tuesday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.
