Lawrence police are searching for suspects in a reported carjacking early Saturday morning that sent one man to the hospital.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl, police were notified of the incident about 3:45 a.m. Saturday. A caller reported the incident in the 2400 block of Winterbrook Drive. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered a 28-year-old Lawrence man who had suffered lacerations and bruises to his head.

The man said he had been asked to assist with transporting someone in the area. He arrived at the location and went to knock on the door of the residence he had been called to.

Hadl said the man was then jumped by two people he believed to be black men, one armed with a handgun. The two suspects tried to push the man back into the vehicle, a blue Cadillac. When the man fought back, he was struck in the head, reportedly with the weapon. The victim was able to fight the men off and ran to a nearby residence to call for help. In the meantime the vehicle was stolen by the suspects.

The man was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.
