Votes count

To the editor:

To quote the late Walt Kelly, “We have found the enemy and it is us.”

Well, you elected him and now you have him. I am, of course, referring to Sam Brownback, our governor. He is doing his very worst to send a clear message that, in the Republican tradition, he is determined to balance tax cuts for his wealthy friends and he will cut every social program to the bone.

The message is if you are poor, working poor, elderly, young and in school or disabled and need help, do not look for it here. “Move on.” “Too bad.” “It’s your problem and not ours.” “We don’t care!” These are not direct quotations, but an interpretation of his actions and responses.

It is plain that if you are liberal, progressive or a member of the groups who are dependent on state aid and likely to vote Democratic, they would prefer to make things as unpleasant and difficult for you as they can. Be assured this is but the beginning of four long years. Remember that it is only in the democracy of the graveyard that all are treated equal. Therefore learn to think carefully when you vote.
