Man pleads to pair of 1981 rapes that sent Fort Riley soldier to prison

? A New York City man charged with raping two women in Kansas 20 years ago has pleaded no contest in one case and guilty in the other.

Daniel Brewer entered the pleas Friday in Riley County District Court. Judge David Stutzman scheduled sentencing for Sept. 27.

KMAN reports that under the plea agreement, Brewer was released on his own recognizance until the sentencing.

The rapes occurred in Ogden in March and July 1981. Brewer was charged in the first rape, but the case was dropped when the jury failed to reach a verdict. He pleaded guilty Friday to that rape.

Another man, Fort Riley soldier Eddie Lowery, was wrongfully convicted of the second rape and spent 10 years in prison before being cleared by DNA.
