SRS strategies

To the editor:

Kansas Neurological Institute stayed open because they found ways to cut costs for state approval. Lawrencians must do the same. Use an empty school to save property rental for the SRS. Who can donate a copier, pest control services, discounted or free paper shredding services, janitorial services or lifeline phone services to decrease their phone bill?

If most of the social service workers are going to keep their jobs, they might as well work here. We must organize, rally and make this happen.

If SRS used bulk mail or the e-filing system, that would help too. They must cut down on superfluous paperwork which they mail out and the clients have to mail back like 16-page forms, where the client only needs medical services. They must become more efficient and updated. The forms MUST be user-friendly as well, not with ID numbers missing, etc. It must be a flawless system.

Discounted utility services will have to be made through the individual utility itself.
