Faith-based policy

To the editor:

I was shocked reading the Journal-World’s headline about closing the Lawrence SRS office. I was not shocked about the closing as much as I was the Journal-World printing a quote by Rep. Paul Davis about Gov. Brownback in the same headline thereby insinuating that Gov. Brownback closed the office. That is not true at all!

Mr. Brownback, as a new governor, inherited the Kansas budget debt. He had to balance the budget. He could not print or borrow more money to pay the debt. He had to raise taxes in a time of poor economy and heavy unemployment or drastically reduce spending. He chose to reduce spending.

Because of spending cutbacks. SRS had to reduce their spending. SRS made the choice to close the Lawrence office, not Mr. Brownback!

Please do not think of me wrong. I’m not a Democrat or Republican. I’m a born again Christian who believes in the truth! Mr. Brownback has been trying to govern on a faith-based system.

Most readers of this letter do not like Mr. Brownback’s idea of governing on a faith basis. But you have to realize the United States is failing fast. We have lost our luster. It is time we wake up and put this country back on its righteous foundation.
