A Douglas County Sheriff’s officer apprehended two teens Friday morning who were reported to have walked away from the O’Connell Youth Ranch southeast of Lawrence.

Sgt. Steve Lewis, a sheriff’s spokesman, said the deputy came upon the teens at 6 a.m. in a field. The officer took the teens to juvenile intake and later returned them to the ranch in the 1600 block of North 1320 Road, which is east of Prairie Park Nature Center.

The ranch is a nonprofit organization aimed at helping boys who have had family or personal crises.
