Worker at Sedgwick County Zoo grazed by venomous viper

? Officials at the Sedgwick County Zoo say a worker was hospitalized for observation after being grazed by a strike from a poisonous snake. The snake was being fed with tongs Monday when it grazed the zookeeper’s finger.

The snake was a venomous Kanburi pit viper. Their bites can cause pain and swelling, but are not known to be life-threatening.

Kanburi pit vipers are native to Thailand. The green and brown snakes live in trees and can grow to more than two feet long.
