Kansas crackdown on food fraud ensnares 2nd Wichita grocery store

? A government crackdown on the sale of federal food benefits for cash has ensnared a second Wichita grocery store.

Federal prosecutors have filed a civil forfeiture complaint seeking more than $100,000, two bank accounts and two real estate properties in their investigation of Alnoor Groceries and Biryani House in Wichita. No criminal charges have been filed. The cash seizures came during searches executed last week.

The forfeiture case lodged Friday against Alnoor Groceries came days after criminal charges were filed against the owner of Kansas Food Market in an unrelated case.

An affidavit filed in the Alnoor Groceries case contended the store had redeemed about $428,000 in program benefits.

Store owners did not return a message left at their residence and no one answered the phone at their store.
