After junior Logan Henrichs missed a couple boxouts against Shawnee Mission South on Tuesday, he was promptly pulled from the game.

So when Henrichs went back in the game, he made sure that he went after every rebound he could.

His 15 rebounds were a season-high, and they helped the Lions cruise to a 57-39 victory at LHS. Henrichs’ tenacity on the boards also paid off for him individually — he finished with 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting.

Coach Mike Lewis said that he knew Henrichs was capable of that kind of game.

“When he decides to compete and get after it, he can be a really special player,” Lewis said.

The Lions led, 25-15, at halftime. Two minutes into the third quarter, chaos nearly broke out after LHS senior Garrett Wagner apparently elbowed South senior Nick Weber in the head. A foul was not called on the play.

Lewis said he didn’t see the play, but he had talked to some people about what they saw.

Both Lewis and South coach Brett McFall spilled onto the floor, trying to separate the two teams. South parents erupted and one Raider fan was kicked out of the game.

“That’s a great learning experience for our guys to move past it and funnel that energy toward the game of basketball,” Lewis said.

The Lions (7-10) maintained their eight-point lead through the rest of the quarter and opened up a 49-33 lead midway through the fourth.

Junior Dylan Christie led the Raiders (4-12) with 14 points and five rebounds.

Next up for the Lions is a tough test on Senior Night against vaunted Olathe Northwest.

So Coach Lewis asked others what they saw. Did he make any decisions regarding playing time for Garrett? It would be interesting to see what he finds on the game tape. It certainly wouldn't a play that was isolated on the tape, but if anything did happen it should be visible.
