Nick Conrad recorded the high game and high series of the tournament to help Free State High’s boy bowling team to a fourth-place finish, and Sarah Perala rolled a 481 series to pace the FSHS girls to third place at the six-team Turner High Invitational on Wednesday at Royal Crest Lanes.
Conrad rolled 199-243-244—686 for the Firebirds, who placed fourth with 2,356 pins. SM Northwest won with 2,471.
“Nick is just a good, solid bowler,” FSHS coach Anita Carlson said of Conrad, normally Free State’s No. 1 bowler behind Justin Walthall. “He’s been bowling really well this season. He did a good job today.”
Perala rolled 158-163-160—481 to pace the girls. McKenzie Dever was right behind with a 475, including a high game of 209.
“McKenzie is our No. 2 bowler,” Carlson said. “She struggled her first two games, and things started working well for her. We’ve been working on some things, and it worked well for her in the third game. She’s very capable of shooting high 500s or 600s.”
Free State will travel today to Westridge Lanes for the Washburn Rural Invitational.
