Several snow-related accidents reported on interstate highways

The Kansas Highway Patrol said at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday that troopers are responding to several weather-related accidents along Interstate 70 in Wyandotte County.

Witnesses on the highway have reported slow traffic in the area near the Legends Shopping Center and Interstate 435. A turnpike dispatcher said several accidents had been reported in that area. Further information was not immediately available.

A Leawood woman was injured earlier Wednesday morning on I-70 just west of Lawrence. According to the turnpike authority, Allison Rose Minea, 20, lost control of her 2005 Chevrolet sport-utility vehicle as she was headed west around 7:40 a.m. just west of the Lecompton interchange.

The SUV struck an embankment, and Minea, who was wearing a seat belt, was listed as injured, but it was unclear if she had to be taken to a hospital.

A Douglas County emergency dispatcher said Wednesday morning that authorities had handled several non-injury accident and calls of vehicles sliding off the roads after snow fell in the area.
