Kansas receives more than half a million dollars as part of settlements with two companies

? Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt says the state has received $610,000 as part of its share in national consumer protection settlements with two companies.

Schmidt said the settlements were reached with DIRECTV and Dannon.

DIRECTV agreed to pay 49 states and the District of Columbia $13.25 million over allegations of deceptive and unfair sales practices. Kansas received $185,000 as part of the agreement.

Dannon made a $21 million settlement with 39 states over claims of health benefits of dairy products through advertising, marketing, packaging and selling. Kansas received $425,000. The settlement requires Dannon to not represent that the products can prevent, treat, cure or mitigate disease.
