KDOT announces Kansas Highway 4 road work project among others

Kansas Highway 4 soon could have a smoother ride through Jefferson County.

On Tuesday, the Kansas Department of Transportation announced bids that have been approved for a host of state highway construction and maintenance projects across the state.

Among the projects is $4.3 million of recycle and overlay work that will be done on 30 miles of roads in Shawnee and Jefferson counties. The road work will begin on K-4 in Shawnee County at the east junction of U.S. Highway 24 and run north to junction of U.S. Highway 59. Work will continue on U.S. 59 heading north to the Atchison County line. Recycle and overlay work also will be done on Kansas Highway 245 from the junction of K-4 north to the end of K-245.

KDOT awarded the Jefferson County road work to Hamm Inc., a Perry-based company.
