Organizers of the annual Community Christmas Dinner continue to seek donations of turkeys, hams and pies.

One of the organizers, Deb Engstrom, said on Friday that she was only halfway toward her goal of 55 20-pound turkeys and 40 five-pound hams. Anyone who would like to donate meat is asked to call or email Engstrom at 330-3105 or deb5550@juno.com before Wednesday.

Engstrom also needs many pies for the meal. They can be dropped off after 6 a.m. Christmas Day at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt., or she will arrange for them to be picked up if donors call or email her.

The free dinner will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Christmas Day at the church.

These small, local charities need to set up PayPal accounts. It's an electronic world and people will do what's simple and fast, because that's how they have become used to paying for other things. My understanding is that PayPal (possibly other online payment services) "do" charities for FREE.
