To the editor:

I just observed what I deem to be a hateful and prejudiced TV spot encouraging the cancellation of legal immigration into the United States. I would assume this is the ultimate goal of some of the political candidates who are pandering to the voting public for some imaginary appeal to voters.

These politicians also like to pontificate on “creating a system” where immigrants can work in the U.S.

One already exists. I worked for a time in the USCIS project at the local call center several years ago and one of the legal and approved methods of obtaining legal permanent residency in the United States is petitioning for a work permit and being approved permanent residency. It has been there for years. But this is a long and difficult process; there are waiting lists for each country and some of the most obvious (Mexico, China, Philippines) can be a long wait. Yet political candidates seeking more leverage to bash their opponents continue to harp on this nonissue.
