• Kansas University-Kansas Small Business Development Center will present the hands-on seminar “Let’s Write a Business Plan!” At the end of the session, attendees will have a basic sample business plan and a template to write their own. This class is recommended for startup and early-stage businesses as a follow-up to “The Right Start” seminar. Cost is $20. • First State Bank & Trust announces Jilinda White has been appointed market president of the Perry (402 Plaza Drive) and Lawrence locations (609 Vt. and 3901 W. Sixth St.) effective Aug. 15. White began her banking career in 1979. She was manager of First State Bank & Trust’s Basehor location for 10 years, managed the corporate retail banking division for eight years, concurrently serving as marketing director and most recently has served as the president of the bank’s holding company.

• The State of Kansas recently licensed Rodney R. Zinn, PLS, as a professional land surveyor. Zinn has served as land survey coordinator at Landplan Engineering since November 2006. He is responsible for coordinating survey crews, training technical staff, providing educational opportunities for Landplan Engineering clients and providing licensed land surveyor’s services on Landplan projects.

• The American Red Cross, Douglas County Chapter, announces officers and new board members for fiscal year 2012. Board chairman is Matt Sarna, Lawrence Police Department; vice chairwoman, Sandra Gautt, Kansas University; and secretary, Janell Barnow, Eudora Public Schools. New incoming members include Beth Easter, Intrust Bank; Brad Minnick, Capitol Concrete; Jill Ice, Lawrence Memorial Hospital; Tracy Green, B.A. Green Construction; Mark Fagan, Lawrence Journal-World; Myrone Green, Lawrence Public Schools; Jude McDaniel, McDaniel and Knutson Financial Partners; and Caprice Thompson, community volunteer. • John R. Hooge Attorney at Law P.A. announces Nicholas Steinwart joined the firm as an associate attorney May 1. He is practicing bankruptcy, foreclosure defense, real estate, probate, wills, business, commercial, and general practice law.

• Kristen Spacek, Owens Flower Shop in Lawrence, recently completed the class “European Style Design” hosted by Teleflora at its Education Center from July 31 through Aug. 3 in Oklahoma City, Okla. Spacek participated in hands-on design sessions, mastering the latest hand-tied bouquets and container arrangements from Europe. She received a certificate upon completion.
