Wichita school board accepts budget with deep cuts, plans to eliminate 230 jobs

? The Wichita school board approved a budget that includes eliminating 230 jobs including about 150 teaching positions.

The $606 million budget approved Monday also replaces high school librarians with library clerks, eliminates elementary orchestra program and closes Blackbear Bosin Academy. It also includes reductions in technology spending and the number of schools that receive Title I money that help needy students.

The Wichita Eagle reports that the budget cuts were caused by a drop in state aid to schools.
