Topeka ? The Kansas Department of Revenue says the state collected $22 million more in taxes this month than anticipated.

The preliminary figures released Friday are good news for legislators as they work on a $14 billion budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1.

The $732 million in April tax collections topped the forecast of $710 million by 3 percent.

But the department described sales tax collections as soft. Officials also noted the state received one-time income tax payments totaling $36 million during the month. It declined to name them.

Friday’s report was the first since state officials and university economists issued revised revenue projections earlier this month through June 2012.
