Wrestling athlete of the year: Reece Wright-Conklin, Lawrence High.

Wright-Conklin, J-W All-Area wrestling athlete of the year for the second straight season, simply dominated his competition this past winter. The junior went undefeated at 37-0 (21 by fall). He holds a 99-5 career record at LHS. He’s a two-time Class 6A state champion. He won this past year in the 171-pound weight class, and his sophomore year at 160 pounds. Wright-Conklin is USA Wrestling Magazine’s No. 6-ranked junior in the country, and No. 12 for all classes. He’s a three-time Sunflower League champion and a three-time regional champion.

Wrestling coach of the year: Patrick Naughton, Lawrence High.

Naughton, who won J-W All-Area coach of the year for the second consecutive year, led the Lions to a sixth-place finish at the Class 6A state tournament this past winter in Wichita. Naughton has coached the Lions into a legitimate Sunflower League power. LHS won the regional championship at Olathe Northwest this past season.
