Volunteers are needed for an East Lawrence Sidewalk Improvement Work Day from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. Volunteers will meet at 14th and Connecticut streets. Neighbors, parents and supporters of safe sidewalks will be working to uncover buried and overgrown brick sidewalks near Central Junior High. Any amount of volunteer time would be appreciated, and extra shovels and clippers will be useful. To volunteer, please contact Mike Myers at 785-218-2636 or at mike@hernly.com.

Immediate needs

• Deerfield School is in search of community volunteers to help out with its annual Deerfield Carnival on May 14. Volunteers are needed to help set up the day before and the day of the event. The carnival proves to be a fun event, but it requires a lot of hands on deck. If you’re available to help, please contact Andria Devlin at 785-749-9518 or at deerfieldpto@hotmail.com.

• Kennedy School is in need of more 50 volunteers for its annual Kennedy Carnival on May 14. There are different shifts throughout Saturday, each lasting a few hours. If you know children who attend Kennedy or if you live in the neighborhood, come out to help the school with this event. • Lawrence Habitat for Humanity is currently seeking volunteers to fill various committee member positions for the following committees: Communications, Family Support, Fund Development and Finance. For those of you who have wanted to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity before, but may not want or be able to physically build a house, committee work can be just the right fit. These committees provide vital support for the work that Lawrence Habitat for Humanity does in the community.
