Fort Leavenworth military police unit earns honors

? A military police company based at Fort Leavenworth is receiving an honor as the top unit of its kind in the Army.

The Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 705th Military Police Battalion will receive the Brig. Gen. J.P. Holland Award at a ceremony Monday at Fort Leavenworth.

The honor is named for the former U.S. Army Europe provost marshal from 1953-1955. Holland sponsored the award after he left the Army in 1969.

The unit is being recognized for running a detention facility in Iraq during 2009 and 2010, helping to train more than 2,200 Iraqi corrections officers and reducing violence at the prison.

In December, the same unit received honors as the best military police unit in the Army Corrections Command.
