Free State baseball wins, 6-1

? Free State pitcher J.D. Prochaska picked up a win in his first appearance of the season, leading the Firebirds’ baseball team to a 6-1 victory over Shawnee Mission South on Thursday.

He also was able to get out of a tough jam in the bottom of the sixth. With South runners on second and third and none out, Toalson struck out the Nos. 2, 3 and 4 hitters in the Raiders’ lineup.

Toalson also went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Cody Kukuk added a triple.

Free State (10-1) will host Blue Valley Northwest at 5 p.m. today.

The game will be the continuation of the season-opener that was suspended and will pick up in the top of the first with a Blue Valley Northwest runner on and two outs and the score tied 0-0.
