Haskell to host third annual Indigenous Empowerment Summit

Dancing, homemade food, a powwow and speeches on all aspects of Native American culture will be highlights at this weekend’s third annual Indigenous Empowerment Summit Friday and Saturday on the Haskell Indian Nations University campus.

Events will include:

  • Lecture topics ranging from a dance workshop to native health disparities to Haskell’s history.
  • A service project of cleaning up campus and planting trees.
  • An open mic.
  • A Saturday lunch of homemade Native American food.
  • Creek singers and Oklahoma gourd dancers, and a powwow beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Coffin Sports Complex.

Registration is $5 and starts at 9 a.m. Friday at Stidham Union. Sessions are 50 minutes long, and registration covers the whole weekend. Registration on Saturday will take place in Navarre Hall.
