Douglas County Public Works begins planning summer roadwork projects

Douglas County Public Works is starting to plan roadwork for the summer in Douglas County.

County commissioners approved Wednesday a bid to rehabilitate Route 1061 from U.S. Highway 56 to North 1200 Road, directly south of Eudora.

The almost $1.2 million project is slated to begin Aug. 1. Keith Browning, director of public works, hopes the project is finished by the second week of October.

“It won’t close the road, but it will close lanes,” Browning said.

Also on the construction agenda is microsurfacing work on Route 442 from East 550 Road to U.S. Highway 40 near Kanwaka. The county is still putting out bids on the project. Browning said it will take only four days, but is giving a window of July 1 to Aug. 31 as the time frame.

The county is also putting out bids for Route 1061 from the Franklin County line to U.S. 56.
