El Dorado prison now telling visitors about fingerprinting policy

? El Dorado Correctional Facility staff is notifying visitors that they’ll have to be fingerprinted before leaving the prison.

Capt. Dale Call, administrative officer of the 1,300-inmate facility northeast of Wichita, said Thursday that the procedure has been in place about a month.

Some visitors have complained, saying they were not told about the new procedure and felt they were detained unnecessarily.

He says as of this week, visitors are being given written notification of the procedure before their visits. The procedure involves placing an index finger on a scanner before being allowed to leave the visiting area.

Call says the procedure helps ensure that inmates are not inadvertently released.
