Hazmat crews clear scene at Allen Fieldhouse parking garage after finding bottle containing chemicals

Hazmat crews were called to the Allen Fieldhouse parking garage on the Kansas University campus Monday morning.

Crews arrived at the garage on Irving Hill Road about 10:45 a.m. after a report of a chemical on the third level near the KU Parking and Transit office.

KU Public Safety Spokesman Capt. Schuyler Bailey said Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical workers packaged up a sealed, labeled bottle containing two chemicals that was found in the parking garage.

“It’s not a hazard. It’s in a container and it’s sealed,” Bailey said. “At no time was there a release of any product.”

Bailey said the packaged bottle was turned over to personnel with the KU Environment, Health and Safety department.

Crews cleared the scene about 11:40 a.m.
