Ballard Community Services, 708 Elm St., is organizing two first-time events to benefit the agency, which provides a wide variety of assistance programs for low-income people in the Lawrence area.

On Sept. 23, Ballard is holding “The 23rd at the 23rd Street Brewery,” which will feature a beer tasting with Bucky the Brewmeister, as well as a five-course meal. Tickets are $75 per person. For more information, call 842-0729 or e-mail seth@ballardcenter.org.

On Sept. 24, Ballard is organizing the “Ballard B3: Blues, Brews and Barbecue.” Barbecue and beer tasting begins at 6 p.m. in South Park. The event will also feature blues band Josh Vowell and the Rumble, who will play at 8 p.m. Cost is $15 for the barbecue and $25 for a seven-beer tasting, or $35 for both.
