Labor Day closings for Lawrence and Douglas County

Government offices and public services in Lawrence and Douglas County will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day.

All city, county and state offices will be closed, as will federal offices in the General Services Administration and the federal courts.

Douglas County District Court offices and city offices in area towns and counties also will be closed.

Most banks will be closed.

The Lawrence Transit System fixed-route and paratransit buses will not run. Parking at meters in downtown Lawrence will be free on Monday.

The Dole Institute of Politics will remain open.

No city yard trimmings collection will take place Monday. Residents are asked to put yard waste out with their normal weekly trash pickup. No other changes are planned in sanitation route schedules, and commercial collection will run as usual.

The Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will be open from 9 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. The Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Ky., will be open from 1 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. for the final day of the season.

Eagle Bend Golf Course and Learning Center, 1250 E. 902 Road, will be open for tee times from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. All other Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed, and there will be no recreation classes, adult sports, special populations, special events or youth sports. Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., will also be closed.

Post offices will be closed, and regular mail delivery will not be offered. Federal Express and UPS will not make regular deliveries.

Oak Hill Cemetery, Maple Grove Cemetery and Memorial Park Cemetery will be open to visitors, but the cemeteries office at Memorial Park will be closed Monday.

Douglas County Senior Services will be closed, including the Lawrence Senior Center. Lawrence Meals on Wheels will not deliver Monday.

LINK, 221 W. 10th St., will serve meals.

Lawrence Public Library will be closed Sunday and Monday.

The Lawrence Workforce Center, 2540 Iowa, will be closed. The Lawrence Douglas County Health Department, 200 Maine, will also close.

The Journal-World’s circulation office will be open for calls and walk-ins from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday.
