Former Kansas University point guard Aaron Miles will attend training camp of the Reno (Nev.) Bighorns of the NBA Development League, team officials announced Saturday night.

One source close to the team indicated Miles had a good chance of emerging as the squad’s starting point guard.

Miles, 27, who played the last two seasons in Greece, was the last player cut in training camp of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors. The Bighorns are an affiliate of both the Warriors and Sacramento Kings.

Miles, who makes Lawrence his offseason home, recently told the Journal-World he was seriously considering playing in the NBADL this year, given how close he came to making the NBA for the 2010-11 season. His wife is expecting the couple’s second child.

Rounding out the preliminary list of invitees to Reno’s camp: Patrick Ewing, Jr. (Georgetown), Mo Charlo (Nevada), Marcus Landry (Wisconsin), Donald Sloan (Texas A&M), Doug Thomas (Iowa), Roburt Sallie (Memphis), Darrin Govens (St. Joseph’s) and Chris Davis (Southern). Thomas, Davis and Charlo were members of the 2009-10 Bighorns team that finished with a 28-22 record and reached the playoffs, while Ewing Jr. was on the 2008-09 Bighorns team that finished 25-25.

The final eight training camp spots will be filled by players from the 2010 NBA Development League Draft, which will be held Monday.

Reno’s coach is Eric Musselman. The NBA Development League, founded in 2001, is the NBA’s official minor league whose teams have direct affiliations to NBA franchises.
