Too much

To the editor:

As I was told, in Lawrence 8.1 percent of the population is seniors, and there are 5.6 percent unemployed. Neither of these groups can stand a tax increase, and let’s not forget those who have a job and got their hours cut. There are four recreation centers, a swimming pool, arts center, golf course and library that get approximately $4 million in tax dollars each year just to keep their doors open. Of that, $3 million goes to the library.

If the library vote passes, your taxes will go up! Those in favor say it is not much. That is what the city, county and school board say when they want to raise taxes.

Some will say we are planning for the future. The future for those who cannot afford a tax increase is making the house payment this month or buying groceries. Common sense has to play a part in this!

“No” to the library vote.
