Disappointed fan

To the editor:

It is hard to be a Jayhawk fan given this year’s experience.

The only game I attended was the NDSU game, which I left with 12 minutes to go because the final score did not matter. There was nothing entertaining about the game, so I felt it was better to beat the traffic to get to my hotel room, the only hotel room I will rent in Lawrence this season. I also made my one trip to Lawrence stores. I have spent all the money I will spend in Lawrence this season. As I left town I was disappointed to realize I had once again been suckered by the KUAD by buying into Jayhawk football.

Fall sports are a disaster. A problem with many of our teams became clear when I learned that many coaches are paid less than the KUAD’s recently hired internal cop who already receives a handsome retirement from the City of Lawrence. He is only doing what other high-salaried employees should already be doing, which is managing their areas of responsibility and keeping thieves off the payroll. How can the KUAD justify this expense?

The KUAD should carefully spend the money given it by the state of Kansas and the supporters of Kansas Athletics. There really is no difference between taxpayer dollars and donor dollars as both spend equally. I am always bothered when a big deal is made that “no taxpayer dollars were lost.” It amazes me that any Kansas supporter trusts the KUAD with any donation. When will it get better?
