Douglas County prosecutors on Monday charged a 27-year-old Joseph I. Monegro of Lawrence with four counts of aggravated assault and four counts of battery stemming from an incident early Sunday morning at The Econo Lodge, 2222 W. Sixth St.

Monegro is accused of using a handgun to threaten several people at a party after an earlier argument with a woman. Lawrence police said bystanders disarmed Monegro and held him until officers arrived. Officers then arrested Monegro and recovered a handgun they believed he used.
