The 1000 block of Massachusetts Street will be closed to traffic from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Thursday for a Kansas University Homecoming celebration.

KU Athletics, the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Lawrence Inc., and the city are teaming up to host a block party from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of Massachusetts Street.

The event will include a live broadcast of football coach Turner Gill’s Hawk Talk radio show, a pep rally, the KU Pep Band, and a kids zone with inflatable games.

The block party is part of KU’s homecoming week festivities, which culminate with a football game against Texas A&M at 6 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Stadium.

A sure-fire cure for the blues when your team's down 52-0? Get a funnel cake and then romp in the bleachers:

Dillons and Hy-Vee are providing free hats to wear to the event.

(make sure you ask for "paper" not plastic)

Just can't wait to hear Gill praising his fine coaching staff again. Then we will get to see another 50+ point whipping. At least some few will, I for one won't watch this ongoing disaster of a season.
