Fund set up for crash victim’s family

Staff and residents at The Windsor of Lawrence have set up a memorial fund to help the family of Mary Paez, the 19-year-old Lawrence woman killed in a two-vehicle accident Thursday in southwestern Lawrence.

Lynn Dodge, director of the assisted living facility at 3220 Peterson Road, said Paez’s grandmother, mother and sister all work at The Windsor.

“No one plans to bury their 19-year-old child, and I know that they work very hard. They’re just a tremendous family,” Dodge said. “I know that they’re just very much struggling, so we wanted to see if we could take some burden off.”

Dodge said anyone can donate to the Mary Grace Paez Funeral and Memorial Fund. Donations can be mailed to Bank of America, 100 N. Broadway, third floor, Wichita, KS 67202. They can also be made through any Bank of America location, including the one in Lawrence, 900 Ohio.

Lawrence police have said Paez died from injuries from a two-vehicle accident at 1:30 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Clinton Parkway and Inverness Drive.

Police did not release any new information about the accident Friday, and they have said they are looking into possible factors that caused the accident, including speed and alcohol.
