Just Food encourages residents to pick up free food

October 13, 2010

The Just Food bank has received an overabundance of food from Harvesters Community Food Network in Kansas City, Mo.

It has approximately 2,000 pounds each of iceberg lettuce, potatoes, apples, nectarines and prepared mashed potatoes.

Carolyn Ward, interim coordinator of the Douglas County food bank, encourages any Douglas County resident to stop by and pick up some food.

The pantry, 1200 E. 11th St., is open 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

For more information, call the food bank at 856-7030.

Also, Lawrence pantries that are approved to accept Harvesters food can stop by and load up.

I would, but I work during your open hours, as do most others that I know of. Hope this got posted at the Shelter and WorkForce, etc. That way those that don't work during the day and need the food can go get it.
