City to dedicate new park, trail

October 10, 2010

Lawrence’s newest park and trail soon will be officially dedicated.

The city will host a ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday for the new Burroughs Creek Trail and Linear Park. The event will be at Parnell Park, 901 E. 15th St., which is adjacent to the trail.

The trail runs along a former rail corridor west of Haskell Avenue between 11th and 23rd streets. The trail was funded from proceeds of the sales tax approved by voters in November 2008 and by a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation.

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be at the East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St.

Well Tink and others of interest, I see more people all the time on that trail. I have seen owners with pets, I seen moms with strollers and I have seen people in their wheel chairs with their attendent worker, so I want to personally thank the city for spending some money for the East side residents. This does not happen often that we get treated, so all you West siders can go take a walk on your "new" oversized sidewalks that have just been put in for your enjoyment!

Yes, thank you city for spending money on the east side that came mostly from the west side. It is still lipstick on a pig.
