Unfair criticism

To the editor:

I strongly disagree with the sentiment expressed in the editorial that appeared in Thursday’s paper. The Kansas Turnpike Authority and the Highway Patrol were scolded for failing to “oversee the situation,” which was a massive traffic jam that drivers were stuck in for hours.

What do you suggest they should have done, with their limited number of officers versus thousands of cars? My family inadvertently got trapped in a NASCAR traffic jam one time for what seemed like hours. We realized it was what it was, that no one could do anything about it.

I am not familiar with the KTA, but what I know about patrol officers I greatly admire. They put their lives on the line for us every day. They do not deserve this criticism.
