Bert Nash Dash & Bash set for Saturday afternoon, will shut down 600 block of Massachusetts with free public party

The 600 block of Massachusetts Street will be shut down Saturday afternoon and evening for a free public party, as well as the finish of a 5K and 10K run.

The Bert Nash Dash and Bash benefits the Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center and will include the two runs, plus several bands as well as food, all on the streets in and around downtown Lawrence.

The bash will begin at 3 p.m. and will feature The Midday Ramblers at 4:30 p.m., Blue Orleans at 5:30 p.m., Trucker at 7:30 p.m. and Split Lip Rayfield at 9 p.m. Food and drinks will be available from Free State Brewery, Quinton’s, Dempsey’s Burger Pub, Hy-Vee, Buffalo Bob’s Smokehouse and O’Malley Beverage.

There will also be a bounce house, giant slide and bungee run for kids, for an additional fee.

The dash portion of the event starts with the 10K at 4 p.m. and the 5K at 4:15, leaving from near Seventh and Massachusetts streets. Bill Self will fire the starter pistol. The 10K route winds through Old West Lawrence and neighborhoods around campus before going down Jayhawk Boulevard and ending with a run up the 12th Street hill past the Oread and back to Seventh and Massachusetts.

Last-minute registration will be available beginning at 2:30 p.m. downtown.
