Woodchip sale begins Thursday

Area residents this week will have a chance to buy large quantities of mulch at the city’s annual woodchip sale.

The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department will host the woodchip sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The sale will be at the city’s woodchip and compost facility, 1420 E. 11th St.

The woodchips — which are made from woody debris collected by city crews during the course of the year — will sell for $10 per pickup load.

Buyers are asked to bring a tarp to cover their load to help prevent woodchips from littering streets.

The sale is operated on a first-come, first-serve basis, and city leaders warn that the sale has ended early in past years because the city sold out of woodchips.
