Dogtoberfest, an event benefiting the Lawrence Community Shelter and Lawrence Humane Society, is in need of volunteers for its event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 16 at South Park. Volunteers will help provide a fun-filled day for dogs and their owners by assisting with registration, the kids’ area, the “Adoptable Dog Showcase”, doggie contests and activities, and other areas as needed. • Lawrence Community Theatre is in need of volunteers to help with its production of “SHOUT! The Mod Musical” for its remaining shows Thursday through Sunday. Volunteers will help usher guests and work in the refreshments bar for any of the performances. • The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Light The Night Walk is in need of volunteers to help at its event on Saturday at South Park. Volunteers will be needed throughout the day to help with event setup, balloons, food, money collection, registration and cleanup, as well as a number of other duties that are crucial to the Light The Night Walk. More than 50 volunteers are needed for this important event. If you can’t help out on the event day, but still want to get involved, there is also a need for three volunteers from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at 23rd Street Brewery to help with the express check-in for event participants. • New York and Kennedy schools will be hosting a “Body Venture” event from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 14 at New York School. Volunteers are needed for event setup the night before, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 13; to work two shifts at the Body Venture event itself, from either 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and to tear down the event at 1 p.m. Oct. 15. • Make A Difference Day is a national day of service that was started by USA Weekend magazine in 1992. The Roger Hill Volunteer Center will be participating by coordinating volunteer projects throughout Lawrence on Saturday, Oct. 23. Several agencies will be hosting groups of volunteers in painting projects, outdoor cleanups, and much more.
