Suppressing truth

To the editor:

Bruce Springsteen wrote an astonishing letter (Journal-World, Sept. 23). He said some “liberal-minded religious leaders” came forward “to decry the religious intolerance and anger which afflict us.” He then refers to “pathogens” endemic in religious communities.” These include: 1) eternal punishment, hell and heaven, 2) original sin, 3) vicarious atonement, 4) promoting superstition while ignoring or denying science. He says steps can be made toward “curing the disease of religious bigotry.”

Springsteen wants others to deny the truth to make him happy in his suppression of the truth of God. No lover of truth or of God could ever deny the facts of the Gospel. Religions and liberal leaders of religions suppress the truth of God too. Religious bigotry also comes from those that hate the truth and deny it. Apart from eternal punishment, there is no justice in the universe. Apart from original sin we have no real explanation of evil. Apart from vicarious atonement, we have no way for God to be just and the justifier of sinners. People of truth don’t deny science, they deny the philosophical presuppositions of some that use science.

Springsteen wants all to deny truth so he can hold to his ancient superstitions that are built upon presuppositions. Religious liberals and those who deny the truth of God will pass away, but the truth of God will stand forever. Springsteen will soon find out that his battle is really against the truth made clear in himself. He is loudly suppressing it.
