Jingle Bell Run comes to town Dec. 12: The North East Chapter of the Kansas Arthritis Foundation is holding the second annual “Jingle Bell Run” in Lawrence. The run will take place on Dec. 12 (Sunday), beginning at the Community Building (115 W. 11th St., Lawrence). Registration and packet pick-up is at 7 a.m. and the 5K run begins at 8:30 a.m. There is also a 1-mile family stroll. P-L Grad Signs with EIU: Perry-Lecompton High grad Courtney Kasson has signed a national letter of intent to play softball at Eastern Illinois. Kasson, a right-handed pitcher, is transferring from Butler County Community College.

Wilkerson Ace: Brian Wilkerson recorded a hole-in-one Friday on Lawrence Country Club’s No. 17 hole. He used a 6-iron for the ace on the 180-yard hole. It was witnessed by David Duncan, Mike Treanor, Chris Hutchens and Tyson Osborn.

Flakus Hole in One: Tony Flakus hit a hole-in-one on Eagle Bend’s 122-yard No. 17 on Saturday. The ace was witnessed by Mike Maples and Chuck Lynn.

Adult Sports Registrations: Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is taking team registration for adult winter basketball, dodgeball and volleyball through Dec. 10. Register on or before Dec. 1 to receive a discounted registration fee. For information, call 832-7920 or visit www.lprd.org.

Ex-Firebirds Honored: Four former Free State High football players were honored at the Coffeyville Red Ravens awards banquet. Sophomore defensive end Grahm Saunders was the recipient of the President's Trophy, which goes to the outstanding sophomore football player for conduct off and on the field. Sophomore safety Preston Randolph was awarded the Barbara Jean Pendleton Scholarship, presented to a sophomore who exemplifies the “true Red Raven spirit and dedication to athletics.” Sophomore offensive lineman Josh Hill and sophomore H-back Taylor Stuart split the Dick Diveley Memorial Scholarship. This award is given to the player who shows the most enthusiasm and true love for the game of football.
