Cultivated pot operation found in Reno County

? Reno County authorities are investigating a cultivated marijuana operation found near the site of larger, similar field discovered last month near Haven.

Sheriff Randy Henderson says the operation found Monday is located near the Arkansas (ahr-KAN’-zuhs) River in south-central Kansas. He didn’t immediately provide details about the number of plants.

Nearly 3,000 pot plants worth an estimated $3 million were discovered by hunters on Oct. 7 in what is believed to be the largest such operation ever found in the county. The Hutchinson News reports those plants were 12 to 14 feet tall and expected to yield about 1 pound of marijuana each.

Henderson says an elderly man who owned the property where the field was found in October had no idea pot was being grown on his land.
