Man released from jail after striking back of patrol car in 1700 block of Tennessee Street

A 22-year-old Lawrence man who was arrested early Saturday in connection with an incident in which a Lawrence police officer was taken to the hospital has been released from jail as prosecutors review evidence before making a decision about filing charges.

The man was arrested after police say he struck the back of a patrol car with his 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the 1700 block of Tennessee Street while an officer and a passenger were inside. The officer was investigating an earlier accident when two parked cars were struck.

The 22-year-old man driving the Monte Carlo was arrested on driving under the influence, having no insurance and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, police spokesman Sgt. Matt Sarna said. The officer and passenger received treatment at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, although each suffered nonlife-threatening injuries, Sarna said.
