Library thanks

To the editor:

After years working towards expanding and renovating the Lawrence Public Library, we were incredibly pleased with the support Lawrencians showed for their library on Election Day. By voting for a minimal property tax increase to pay for the upgraded library Lawrence needs, we’ve made an investment in Lawrence’s future that will pay dividends for decades. Not only that, but Lawrencians have also proved again that they value community, education and public resources enough to pay for them. We appreciate living in a community with the foresight to make such an investment now, when costs are down, and when our local economy could use the boost the library project will bring.

From here, we hope Lawrence will continue its strong support of the library. The real work is just beginning, and as city and library officials work to bring the improved library to life we must be patient yet purposeful. And a few years from now, we can all gather to dedicate the library facility that Lawrence needs and deserves. For bringing that prospect one giant leap closer to reality this Election Day, we are extremely grateful to the citizens of Lawrence.
